Glaucoma is a group of optic neuropathies characterized by progressive degeneration of retinal ganglion cells, resulting in progressive loss of vision. The most important risk factor associated with glaucoma is the increased intraocular pressure. US Patent No. 8206440 proposes to treat the disease by lowering intraocular pressure using an active implantable microvalve. This microvalve is powered by means of inductive coupling between two antennae, one located in the implant itself, and the other located in an external device. This powering method brings up, at least, two issues regarding the safety of the microvalve. The former, is the possibility of generating adverse effects on the patient due to exposure to the electromagnetic field required to feed the microvalve. The latter is the possibility of generating adverse effects in the microvalve, and through it in the patient, because of exposure to the electromagnetic fields present in public access areas. These electromagnetic fields are generated by electrical appliances, mobile communication devices and the electric power supply network, among others. The former issue is addressed by a science called dosimetry, while the latter is addressed by radiated susceptibility. Both, dosimetry and radiated susceptibility, can be included inside a broader discipline: the electromagnetic compatibility. In this thesis, dosimetric and radiated susceptibility studies for the microvalve are developed, using mainly computational simulation.Palabras clave – provistas por el repositorio digital
